Come Meet The Whimsical Terri Hardin At The Next World Chapter's Meeting On Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.

Terri Hardin has been a sculptor for the Walt Disney Company for over 30 years. She became a Walt Disney Imagineer and worked for the company designing attractions for Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

"TALES from TERRI: A DISNEY SCULPTOR’S LIFE, Volume One," shows color plates of her highly collected works she created for special events at Disneyland. Many never got to see them as the sold out in the first hour they were offered. Included with these plates are stories of how they came to be and the journey it took to create them.

Lightly touching on her childhood and urging the reader to go for their dreams and never quit, she illustrates how artists wanting to pursue a job at Disney can prepare for the day when this opportunity will present itself.

Brian, “Mr. Halloween”, has many interesting stories about his 18 years with the Disneyland Resort. He has been part of the Haunted Mansion Holiday fun since it first began 13 years ago and he and his team have once again out done themselves.

Brian’s work can also be seen around the Park, from the large Disney pumpkin heads above the entrance turnstiles, to many photo locations and Collectible art pieces. You might even remember his “Candy Corn Acres” at Disney California Adventure! He has been involved with it’s a small world Holiday, The Christmas Fantasy Parade (14 years), and most recently Tangled and Beauty and the Beast shows in the Fantasy Faire.

Please join us this month as we enjoy our meeting location in Orange with a large meeting room, full kitchen, plenty of tables to showcase your treasures, and LOTS of parking. There will be a social hour, including Swap ‘n Sell, starting at 11:30 am. Members are encouraged to bring snacks to share during the break. We urge everyone to also remember that everyone benefits from healthy snacks, too.

He only bought a ticket to enter Disney park once in his life on July 18, 1955. On the very next day, he started his career at Disney. After 48 years of service, he retired from Disney and was inducted as a Disney Legend in September 2005.

Our guest speaker will be TOM NABBE, the original TOM SAWYER, who was hired by Walt Disney for Tom Sawyer’s Island at Disneyland.

World Chapter Board and General Membership Meeting on Sunday, August 4, 2013

The World Chapter will be holding their Board Meeting (Board members should only attend, please) and General Membership meeting on Sunday, August 4, 2013. They will be meeting at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery at the Crossroad Springs Shopping Center located at 12559 South Apopka Vineland Road in Orlando.

The Board will meet from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
The General Membership will meet from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Meet Jiminy's Official Conscience For 47 Years At The Next Chapter At The Park Meeting on Saturday, June 15, 2013 @ 12:30 p.m.

We are honored to have as our guest, Carolyn Carroll, the wife of Eddie Carroll for 47 years. Eddie Carroll was the voice of Jiminy Cricket since 1973. Sadly, Eddie passed away in 2010. Carolyn will speak about Eddie and about the book that she has written with stories and memories of Eddie's wonderful life and amazing career in radio, theater, as Jiminy, and as Jack Benny.

Dear Chapter at the Park Member,

Included with [the mailing that was mailed to all members], you will find a copy of our revised Chapter By-Laws that your Board approved at their February 9, 2013 meeting.  Over the past year Bob Allmon, Vice President of Membership and myself have worked on the revision and updating of these by-laws.  We are now submitting them to you for your approval.

Please review the by-laws. I believe they are fairly self explanatory. Wording in red and crossed out are in the current by-laws and are being eliminated and either being dropped entirely or replaced with the wording in black bold print. Most of the changes were done to make the running of the Chapter a little easier and to eliminate some language that was either repeated in another section of the by-laws, to match changes we have already made within the Chapter regarding specific meeting dates and membership, or in some cases to correct items that contradicted themselves in two different sections.

At the June 15th meeting we will be voting on the revised by laws, which if approved would become effective for the Chapter at the Park immediately. If you are unable to attend the June 15th meeting an absentee ballot will be available for you to use.

World Chapter's Local Chapter Meeting will feature guest speaker Jim Korkis, Disney Historian and author. Jim will be discussing stories about the Disney's animated feature, "Song of the South" and about Splash Mountain, the Disneyland and Walt Disney World attractions based on the animated feature.

Jim will also bring copies of his latest books, “Who’s Afraid of the Song of the South” and “The Revised Vault to Walt”. You may purchase one or both titles and Jim will autograph them for yourself and for all your family members and friends!

The Studio Chapter of the Disneyana Fan Club will be following in the footsteps of the Friends of the Mouse and pay a visit to the Orange County location of the Castle Peak And Thunder Railroad (CPTRR).  This railroad is a backyard garden railroad built over a span of years by architect David Sheegog, a big Disney fan.  You can check it out on David's website at www.cptrr.webs.com  It is AMAZING!

David Sheegog grew up in Southern California in the 1960’s surrounded by orange groves. If the wind was blowing in the right direction and he listened for it, he could clearly hear the sound of a steam whistle and the clanging of a bell signaling the coming and going of trains. The passengers on these trains were enjoying a Grand Circle Tour of Walt Disney’s original park, Disneyland.

Many years later, David built his backyard garden railroad themed after the place that he (and all of us) have come to love so much.

Join us as we embark on our own Grand Circle Tour of the Castle Peak & Thunder Railroad!

DIRECTIONS:
From Los Angeles County - take the Golden State (5) Freeway South to the Riverside (91) Freeway East, and follow directions below.

From Orange County - connect to the Riverside (91) Freeway East, and follow directions below.

Once on the Riverside Freeway East - continue to the Weir Canyon Road exit (Exit 39); turn right onto S. Weir Canyon Road and continue to S. Serrano Avenue and turn right; continue on S. Serrano Avenue to E. Somerset Lane and turn right; continue on E. Somerset Lane to S. Ladan Lane and turn left; the destination will be on your left.

NOTE: PARKING ON THE STREET IS LIMITED. Carpool if possible, or meet other club members at the shopping center at the corner of S. Weir Canyon Road and S. Serrano Avenue, and carpool from there.

Take A Grand Tour of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa at the Next Chapter at the Park's Chapter Meeting Event on April 20th!

The Chapter at the Park of the Disneyana Fan Club is proud to present, "A Grand Tour of California Architectural History at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa."

The Chapter at the Park April meeting will be a bit different. Rather than meeting at our regular meeting location we will be taking a guided tour of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa!

On Saturday April 20th, the hotel will open its doors to Chapter at the Park members for a special tour given by a VIP Disney Guide. The walking tour will last approximately 75 minutes and will touch on the history of the Craftsman movement while showcasing the hotel's beautiful architectural details.

The tour will begin promptly at 1 p.m., so we advise that you plan for extra time to park and walk to the location. Parking is free for up to three hours in Downtown Disney self parking lots off of Disneyland Drive or if you plan to stay at the resort longer you will  want to park in the Mickey and Friends parking structure or other long term lots available to day guests or annual passholders with parking privileges.

You will need to proceed through the Downtown Disney Shopping District and enter the hotel via the side entryway between the Sephora and Studio 356 storefronts. Once inside the hotel, proceed to the grand piano in the main lobby to meet your guide. Someone from the Chapter Board will be there also to assist with check in.

The tour will be strictly limited to 30 people, and positions will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Since there is limited space we must restrict reservations to members of the Chapter only and no guests will be allowed at this time. Join us for Saint Patrick’s Day, the Disney Way. We’ll be wearin’ the green, and sharing our love for the Disney ancestral lands. We’ll also be paying tribute to the late Huell Hower, host of “California’s Gold” on public tele-vision. Don’t worry - there’s a Disney connec-tion there, too. You’ll have to join us to find out what it is! 

Tis a pot-luck we’re having. The main course (corned beef & cabbage, what else?) is taken care of, as well as dessert. Bring along a side dish or salad to round out the meal, or suffer the wrath of the wee folk! 

Game Night at the Northern California Chapter Meeting on Sat. March 9th

The Northern California Chapter of the NFFC-Disneyana Fan Club will be holding its next meeting on Saturday, March 9 beginning at 6:30PM. It's game night! Please bring your Disney games or games with a Disney overlay for the return of a popular meeting activity.

San Diego County Chapter FIRST EVER Club Meeting and Event Set for Saturday, March 2, 2013

We've been trying to set up our first meeting, so that we can meet each other face to face. Initially we were aiming for a meeting this Friday, but less than a handful of us indicated that we could make it.

However, fellow member Carmel Fleck came up with a great suggestion. Since quite a few of us are already going to be at the D23 Fanniversary in Balboa Park on Sat., Mar. 2 (it starts at 2:00 PM), why not just have our first meeting there? Even if you are not going to be going to the Fanniversary, come meet us anyway and also spend some quality time in Balboa Park. People travel from around the world to visit there.

So, let's meet outside the San Diego MOPA in Balboa Park at 1:00 PM on that date. I'll make and bring some sort of temporary sign, so that we will all have a way to recognize each other. It will be informal meeting, where we can meet and begin to get to know each other, before we go into the D23 Fanniversary event. If it rains, we will decide on the spot where to take cover, but do bring umbrellas if the skies look threatening.

Attention San Diego Area Disney Enthusiasts: New Local Chapter is Forming in Your Area!

To All San Diego County Disney enthusiasts:
Are you a Disneyland Park/Disney California Adventure annual passholder? Do you watch for and often attend D23 Disney Fan Club events? Do you have and enjoy a collection of Disney memorabilia? Do you wish that you could share your interest in Disney with others who also really enjoy these things locally, and travel as a group (either by carpooling or in convoys to out-of-county events?
If so, please consider helping to form a San Diego chapter of the Disneyana Fan Club. I am putting together a list of people who would like to join. We can share news via email, go on day trips to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, sign up for and go to D23 events (such as the upcoming free preview of the new Disney movie "Oz The Great and Powerful" at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank") and more.

The Disneyana Collectable Expo is coming Sunday, February 17, 2013.

While you are walking around, looking at the best mix of Disney collectables and products, old and new, anywhere on the planet, don't forget to stop by and visit the Local Chapters area!

There will be representatives from our many Local Chapters, proving that there are Disneyana collectors located at all corners of the world... with a Local Chapter nearby! (and if there isn't one currently near you, you're invited to join our "virtual" local chapter or you can form a local chapter yourself, just like what San Diego is doing now.)

If you know of a friend who would also like to go, you may give them a discount admission coupon, which is located on the Disneyana Fan Club's website, too.

The Disneyana Collectable Expo will open with entry beginning at 9:00 a.m. for DFC members and 10:00 a.m. for the general public. The Disneyana Collectable Expo will close at 5:00 p.m.
